anglo-dutch food consumer product group unilever said on monday that it is on target to meet second-quarter earnings estimates despite the drag on overall revenue from poor ice cream sales in europe. howard green, the head of investor relations for unilever, told analysts that the company has seen second-quarter earnings grow 20 per cent. the company is targeting low double-digit earnings growth for the full year.

italian power company edison is in exclusive talks with agribusiness and food company bunge to sell its 55 per cent interest in french cooking oil company cereol, the two companies announced in separate statements this week. edison, a newly created company composed of edison, sondel, fiat energia and montedison, has given bunge an exclusive right, valid for several weeks, to negotiate the purchase of edison\'s interest in cereol.

researchers in the us claim to have discovered a possible added benefit of hormone replacement therapy: saving teeth. post-menopausal women who took a daily dose of oestrogen along with calcium and vitamin d improved the condition of their jaw, which in turn could reduce the risk of tooth loss. scientists at the washington university school of medicine claim that women who had regular dental check-ups but took only calcium and vitamin d also improved jaw mass and density, but to a significantly lesser extent than those who received oestrogen.
