starfruit fibres offer control-release potential

insoluble fibres from starfruit could offer industry potential carriers for nutrients, or for the slow-release of other ingredients, suggests new research. taiwanese researchers report that the insoluble fibre material from the pomace of starfruit ( averrhoa carambola ) may carry about 11 mg of vitamin e per gram, and release the nutrient slowly, showing its potential for the growing health and wellness trend in the food industry. more

associated british foods in talks to acquire azucarera ebro

advisers of ebro puleva approached associated british foods, the owner of british sugar, after european sugar refiners attempted to consolidate following eu sugar subsidy reforms in 2006. according to the financial mail, british sugar is on an acquisition trail. recently, it purchased a beet producer in poland and china, and a minority stake in durban-based sugar producer illovo. the company's strategy to diversify from british beet production will be furthered with the purchase of azucarera ebro, the source added. more

lucky country recalls all natural black licorice products
