fonterra has seen continued strength in milk prices via their internet-based sales platform, a further sign that the dairy market is recovering. the new zealand dairy giant concluded its globaldairytrade december trading event this morning with the average price for whole milk powder up 3.6%. the trading manager, cra international, advised fonterra that the average price achieved across all contracts and contract periods for whole milk powder (wmp) was us$3,560 per tonne fas.

australia’s largest soft drink manufacturer has been awarded the prestigious manufacturing logistics award at the supply chain & logistics association of australia’s recent national awards ceremony in melbourne. the award recognises the achievements of coca-cola amatil’s supply chain remodelling program ‘project jupiter’, which the company says has “substantially improved order fulfilment efficiency, reduced distribution and transport costs, and cut greenhouse gas emissions”.

food franchisor and retailer allied brands has informed shareholders that its net profit will jump more than 20 per cent this year as the international expansion of its cookie man brand gathers pace. speaking at yesterday’s agm, allied brands ceo shane radbone forecast the company would record net profit before tax of between $6.6 million and $7.2 million for 2009/10. the forecast is 20 per cent to 33 per cent higher than the company’s 2008/09 result.

mcdonald’s has overnight announced that ralph alvarez has decided to retire as president and chief operating officer of the company for health-related reasons. “after more than 30 years in the restaurant industry, the past 15 with this great brand mcdonald’s, i’ve decided to retire,” alvarez said. “seven orthopedic surgeries and years of chronic pain culminating in two total knee replacements in the past six months have made me realise it’s time to move on.
