uk retailer marks & spencer has won a protracted legal battle against the vat office that had classified its marshmallow teacakes as chocolate biscuits. under complex vat rules, chocolate biscuits are subject to standard-rate vat but cakes are zero-rated. the peanut corporation of america knew it had distributed peanut products tainted with salmonella as long ago as 2007, the fda said on friday. the food and drug administration said that in some situations the pca’s blakely, georgia plant had shipped peanut products that had tested positive for salmonella prior to receiving a negative result through further testing, and in some cases no further testing was done. more
