dietary intakes of acrylamide are not related to increased risks of brain cancer, says a new study from maastricht university in the netherlands. acrylamide intake, at levels commonly consumed in the dutch diet, had no impact on the risk of brain cancer, according to findings of a study with 58,279 men and 62,573 women in the netherlands cohort study on diet and cancer published in the cancer epidemiology, biomarkers & prevention .

unilever’s activities in the developing and emerging markets and the us have proved key to growth in q1, but private label presents a challenge to brands. the anglo-dutch consumer products group has today reported organic growth on 4.8 per cent, with a total turnover of €9.5bn. moreover, the developed and emerging markets were said to have seen double-digit growth, while performance in the us was “improved”.

papa john's international, an operator of pizza delivery and carryout restaurants, has posted a net income of $17.84m, or $0.64 per diluted share, for the first quarter ended march 29, 2009, compared to 2008 first quarter net income of $8.62m, or $0.3 per diluted share.the company posted revenues of $284.97m for the first quarter of 2009, representing a decrease of 1.4% from revenues of $289m for the same period in 2008.

the food and drug administration (fda) has taken another blow as a us news organization published figures on thursday showing it is failing to meet its goals for auditing individual states’ food safety inspections. the fda aims to audit at least seven percent of food safety inspections that are carried out by state authorities on its behalf, in order to ensure they come up to a satisfactory standard.
