raising the levels of ‘good’ potassium salts in foods could reduce heart disease risk by up to 11 per cent, according to new research. the research letter, published in archives of internal medicine, suggests by increasing potassium intake, populations could see up to a five percent reduction in people with high blood pressure. “small reductions in blood pressure (bp) on a population level could have a substantial impact on cardiovascular disease risk,” wrote the researchers, led by dr geleijnse, from division of human nutrition, wageningen university, and unilever r&d. more

albury burger bar fined for salmonella outbreak

an albury takeaway restaurant has been fined following a salmonella outbreak that resulted in more than 170 people falling ill after eating food from the albury burger bar, minister steve whan said today. “investigations conducted by the nsw food authority have determined the cause of the outbreak to be a raw egg aioli product that was contaminated with salmonella,” minister whan said. “the product in question was sold from the premises between the 14th and 17th of january this year and the albury burger bar has been fined for selling unsafe food. more
