heineken recently announced it will create a global business services organisation to deliver purchasing and business process & technology services across the company. current managing director of heineken france, frans eusman will be appointed global business services director, reporting to chief financial officer, rené hooft fraafland. eusman will be succeeded by marc busain, current managing director of heineken’s egyptian business, al ahram beverages.

kerry group’s strong interim performance has prompted the irish ingredients and finished product firm to raise its earnings forecast, with more investment planned in emerging regions. sales revenue for the half year ended 30 june 2010 increased by 6.7 per cent to €2.4bn, while trading profit was up almost 13 per cent to €204m. revenue from the group’s ingredients & flavours division reached €1.

the great carve up of the uk’s food standards agency responsibilities has come into effect, with the agency retaining only the food safety remit and other aspects going to the defra and the department of health. the change is being implemented by the new conservative-liberal democrat coalition government in the uk. the fsa was formed 10 years ago by the then labour government, partly to help prevent future food safety crises such as bse.

the californian senate has thrown out a bill to ban bisphenol a (bpa) in food contact materials for young children in a close vote earlier this week. the decision has provoked fiercely diverse reactions – with industry groups backing the move while pro-ban campaigners claimed that trade interests had been placed above children’s health. lawmakers finally rejected the bill on tuesday after a legislative tussle that lasted more than a year.

the company has posted an operating income of $119.4m, compared to $120.9m last year, a decrease of 1.2%. the company said that the $1.5m decline in operating income reflects the negative impact of the topline, partially offset by lower costs (primarily due to productivity savings) as well as favorable mix. del monte foods chairman and ceo richard wolford said that 1.1% topline decline reflects lower revenue from the company\'s consumer business with continued healthy topline performance in the pet business.
