  frutarom develops new ingredient to make fish sausages  

frutarom savory solutions has developed a new ingredient compound which enables fish to be used as sausage filling. with the new ingredient frutarom says it has developed a product that allows manufacturers to present fish in a new form. the company says the fish version of the sausage is considerably lower in fat than conventional pork or beef variants, and contains valuable omega-3 fatty acids. frutarom says the fish sausage neatly links the popular consumer trends for snacking and following a healthy diet. “with this product, we are focusing on target groups who are curious about trying out new products and flavour variations. the fish snack is also a healthy alternative for consumers who want to follow a conscious diet without relinquishing certain types of food,” said stephanie peters, marketing communication manager for frutarom savory solutions. meat-free whilst the prospect of producing sausages from fish may be new to many european consumers, sausage type snacks made from fish and seafood products are a popular in japan, where products such as kamaboko (a cured surimi product), and fish sausage products resembling hot-dog sausages are commonplace. peters told foodnavigator that the new compound was developed to produce meat-free sausages made from fish ingredients. she added that the product “is a meatless alternative” to the popular german currywurst snack.

iceland recalls beef in oyster sauce noodles

due to a packaging error, iceland’s beef in oyster sauce noodle bowl contains undeclared peanut, fish and shellfish. these undeclared allergens pose a public health risk to those allergic or sensitive to peanuts, fish or shellfish, so the agency has issued an allergy alert. people with an allergy to peanuts, fish or shellfish are advised not to eat this product. more

aldi withdraws batch of greisinger sausages

aldi stores has withdrawn one batch of greisinger cheese cabanossi austrian air dried, hot smoked and seasoned sausages due to incorrect allergen labelling. it is labelled as dairy-free but contains cheese. the agency has issued an allergy alert. due to a labelling error the ingredients list includes cheese despite the dairy-free label. more

fsa recommends graded approach to meat inspection charges

the food standards agency’s (fsa’s) board today responded to meat industry lobbying by agreeing to recommend that ministers adopt a “tapered” approach to the introduction of meat inspection charges. the board proposed an amendment, subject to eu minimum charges, which means the proposal for three charging bands imposed on smaller throughput abattoirs with effect from april 2012 would be progressive rather than a “step change” the measures will provide around £3. more

fsis halts testing for e. coli strain in dried sausages
