sab miller has promised to continue negotiations with the foster’s board after its $10bn takeover bid was rejected. the uk-listed brewer offered aus $9.5bn (us $10bn) for foster’s but the board of the australian beer giant dismissed the unsolicited proposal. “the board of foster’s believes that the proposal significantly undervalues the company in the context of a change of control and, as such, it does not intend to take any further action in relation to it,” said foster’s in a statement.

kellogg’s is hoping to shed some light on consumer behaviour and healthy lifestyles at a meeting of experts next month, which could translate into new products and marketing solutions. kellogg’s european breakfast club is hosting a symposium looking at how consumers are motivated to adopt healthier or more sustainable habits and the role that industry can play. the event will take place on 12 july in brussels and one of the questions on the agenda will be how behavioural insights can be incorporated into product design to promote healthy and sustainable consumption.

leading chef ferran adria will work together with pepsico on ‘creative food concepts’ as part of a new innovation partnership, says the company. adria, whose restaurant el bulli in spain has been named best in the world five times by restaurant magazine, will work with pepsico to help develop new methods and concepts for creative food innovation. the partnership will involve sharing creative principles, procedures and techniques for the creation of new snack foods, breakfast options and convenience alternatives, said pepsico.

the uk campaign to change in european law to allow smoked skin-on sheep meat for human consumption was dealt a blow when the region’s top food safety body rejected its production proposals as insufficient, incomplete and inadequate. in may 2010, the uk food standards agency (fsa) urged the european commission to amend eu law to permit the production of ‘smokies’, the common name for smoked skin on sheep carcasses.

campbell soup co. has appointed former coca-cola co. executive gareth edgecombe to the role of president of its operations in asia-pacific. edgecombe will be responsible for the company\'s australian, asian and pacific operations, including the arnott\'s biscuits brand and campbell\'s soup. he will be based at campbell arnott\'s regional headquarters in sydney and will report to mark alexander, president of campbell international.

tesco is planning to open 51 stores in turkey this year as part of an gbp80m expansion programme. a spokesman for tesco\'s turkish subsidiary told just-food this week that the retailer planned to open 25 supermarkets, 16 hypermarkets and 10 express outlets. the retailer\'s tesco kipa subsidiary last year reported a turnover of tl1.65bn and expects this year to see that rise to trl2bn, the spokesman said.
